Criteria: You must already be an experienced rider:

Step 1: Get Your Motorcycle Learner’s Permit

• Go to: NYS DMV: Obtain a motorcycle Learner's Permit

• It can be done online in some cases.

• Your Motorcycle learners permit is valid for practice riding with

restrictions.

Step 2: Enroll in a 1-Day MSF Course 

• BRC2-LW (Basic Rider Course 2 – License Waiver).

• Designed for experienced riders. You must have your own bike.

• Contact an approved MSF training site in NY and book a 1-day course.

• Cost: Around $346, depending on the provider.

Step 3: Complete the Course

• Show up with a M endorsed rider and your valid motorcycle permit and riding gear. 

• Pass the written and riding skills evaluation.

• You’ll receive a road test waiver certificate.

Step 4: Go to the DMV

• Submit your waiver certificate.

• Pay any license upgrade fees.

• The DMV adds the "M" (motorcycle) to your license — now you’ve got that M class endorsement!
